P.A. Rep. Topper Introduces Bill to Bring Full Practice Authority to Nurse Practitioners

| Apr 20, 2015 | Medical Licensing

This past month, Representative Jesse Topper (R-Bedford) introduced House Bill 765 which modernizes the State’s Professional Law to bring full practice authority to Nurse Practitioners.

This Bill will make it easier for Nurse Practitioners to care for Pennsylvania residents, particularly in rural areas.

Full practice authority is endorsed by the Institute of Medicine, the AARP and the National Governors Association. Twenty states already use full practice authority. This bill is hailed as a benefit to citizens in underserved rural areas.

Topper noted “Nationwide, there is a shortage of healthcare providers, especially in rural areas such as the 78th District, allowing these Nurse Practitioners to practice without unnecessary burden, and to the full extent of their training, will pay big dividends for the Commonwealth”.
