Conduct allegations can lead to medical licensing problems

On Behalf of | Nov 2, 2018 | Medical Licensing

When a Pennsylvania doctor’s conduct is called into question, it can create complications for patients regarding their current health care regimens. If a medical licensing board suspends a physician’s license, he or she is still obligated to help primary care patients obtain treatment elsewhere. A doctor in another state is currently going through a similar situation following reprimand and license suspension due to allegations of misconduct.

The suspension has been ordered effective immediately. A formal hearing will take place to determine the final outcome of the situation. Until that time, the doctor stands accused of violating a Board order and acting unprofessionally in connection with prescribing controlled substances.

This particular doctor was already disciplined by the licensing commission in 2017. He was under investigation concerning whether or not he was in compliance with terms of his probation when new allegations arose against him. Since 2014, there have been approximately 200 similar prescription-writing cases under investigation in the same state.

What is a medical patient to do when he or she needs care and learns that his or her primary care physician has incurred a suspension from a Pennsylvania medical licensing board? The Board of Medical Examiners in the state where the recent suspension took place says it is up to the suspended physician to help patients find appropriate health care and treatment elsewhere. Facing a license suspension is a worrisome experience; no licensed professional needs to manage it alone. Those who are accused of misconduct may enlist the help of a personal advocate by asking an experienced medical licensing attorney for support.
