There are several types of issues that may arise in a Pennsylvania physician’s personal life that can impact his or her licensure and career. One such issue would be if a doctor were to face criminal charges, perhaps for driving under the influence of alcohol. In fact, a licensing board in another state recently suspended a doctor’s license for that very reason.
It is not the first time this particular doctor has faced disciplinary measures from the board. He reportedly got into trouble some time ago after delivering a baby. Records show that he was intoxicated at the time. This was discovered when the infant’s mother complained to administrative officials that the doctor reeked of alcohol during her child’s birth. The doctor gave a blood sample that showed his blood alcohol content at the time was .27; this resulted in a suspension of his license to practice medicine.
The suspension was only temporary, however. It appears alcohol is again a key factor in the doctor’s current licensing trouble. The doctor was reportedly arrested on suspicion of drunk driving some time in November. Administrators say the doctor was prohibited from consuming alcohol after his license was reinstated in 2007 following the childbirth incident.
In light of that fact, the licensing board has now suspended his license indefinitely, stating that he violated the terms of his reinstatement. Other Pennsylvania doctors have likely gone through similar situations. Some have been able to avoid losing their licenses by relying on experienced legal representation during medical licensing hearings.
